Weld Testing 6.0.0.Final

Weld Testing 6.0.0.Final is now available!
This release brings support for testing your CDI applications with CDI 5.0 and Weld 7, using Weld 7.0.0.Final. With extensions for JUnit 4, JUnit Jupiter and Spock, you can test your beans in a real CDI container with minimal setup. Java 17 or newer is required.

Breaking change and migration

As announced in Beta1, the JUnit Jupiter extension artifact has been renamed from weld-junit5 to weld-junit-jupiter, and the org.jboss.weld.junit5 package is now org.jboss.weld.junit.jupiter. The new name reflects the Jupiter engine rather than a specific JUnit version — the extension works with both JUnit 5 and JUnit 6.

To help you upgrade, we provide the OpenRewrite recipe org.jboss.weld.junit.MigrateToWeldJunitJupiter. It handles the package rename in Java sources, the Maven dependency artifact change, and the META-INF/services SPI file rename for custom WeldJunitEnricher implementations. If you configure explicit parameter injection through a system property, also switch to org.jboss.weld.junit.jupiter.explicitParamInjection. The old org.jboss.weld.junit5.explicitParamInjection name is still accepted for backward compatibility but will be removed in a future version.

Other notable changes

Since Beta1, we have added several improvements to MockBean (#402):

Support for CDI 5 reserve beans, eager initialization and automatic resource cleanup through @Reserve, @Eager and @AutoClose, including corresponding builder options.
Improved destruction handling to release dependent instances even when a destruction callback fails.
Unmanaged mock lifecycles are now bound to their owning container, including when a mock is shared across multiple test containers.

The release also includes dependency updates and the Jakarta Persistence 4.0 EntityAgent injection support introduced in Beta1. For the full list of changes since Beta1, see the release notes.
